Facial Implants Plastic Surgery | Tuscaloosa Alabama | Cosmetic SurgeryFacial Implants for Beautiful, Balanced Contours

Beauty is an elusive thing. Some people say that it’s in the eye of the beholder. Some say that it’s based on principles of balance and symmetry. But none of that really matters unless you’re pleased with the reflection looking back at you in the mirror. And if you feel that your face is lacking in contour and depth, or exhibiting a weak chin, jawline, or cheekbone, facial implants can add dimension and volume to areas of the face that may appear somewhat lackluster. Facial implants are made of specially-designed compounds that are compatible with human tissue, and they come in a wide range of sizes and components. They are an excellent way to add balance and symmetry to help you discover your true beauty.

If you’re concerned about lack of facial contours, particularly in the cheek, jaw and chin areas, a consultation at Plastic Surgery of Tuscaloosa can help you decide if facial implants are right for you. Our aesthetic surgical center, located in the North River area of Tuscaloosa, offers a refined, sophisticated, and discrete environment for your surgical treatment. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ross Bunch, MD will listen carefully to your aesthetic needs and develop a treatment plan to achieve your desired goals while maintaining a focus on comfort and safety. Facial implants may be a good option for you if you’re concerned about:

    • A weak or receding chin
    • A narrow or sloping jawline
  • A chin that is out of balance with the nose and forehead
  • Cheeks that are recessed, flat or lack volume
  • If you’ve been longing for more defined facial contours, facial implants may be an excellent way to achieve your aesthetic goals.

    How Do Facial Implants Work?

Facial implant treatments and procedures are highly individual, and so treatment plans will vary greatly. It is also possible to have multiple implants performed at once, or to have facial implants combined with other cosmetic enhancements such as under-chin liposuction, a face lift, neck lift, or other aesthetic procedures. These factors will have a significant impact on the length of the procedure and recovery time. Typically, facial implants are performed in a hospital setting under IV or general anesthetic. Depending on the extent of the treatment plan, you may be able to return home the same day.

With cheek, jaw, and chin implants, incisions are typically made inside the mouth. In the case of cheek implants, a transconjunctival incision may also be made within the lower eyelid, or perhaps behind the hairline. This ensures that there will be no visible scaring following your recovery. The implant is gently inserted through the incision, and carefully contoured to achieve the optimal aesthetic effect. The implant is secured into place, and the closed surgical site is often covered in a soft tape which helps to hold the implant in place while healing.

Be sure to have a family member or friend available to drive you home, and to help you manage during the first critical days of your recovery. You should expect some initial swelling and discomfort around the surgical site during the first week, and cold compresses should help relieve this. During this time, it is important to maintain good head elevation, and to avoid strenuous exercise. Any remaining stitches will be removed after the first week, and stiches inside the mouth will dissolve on their own. You can expect to return to your normal daily activities after approximately 10 days, although strenuous activity should be avoided for at least 6 weeks. The results of your enhancement will be immediately evident, and will continue to improve over the next 2-3 months as the healing process progresses.
