Smooth Out Your Skin with Laser Resurfacing
The health of your skin is central to attaining a naturally beautiful, flawless look. A smooth, well-toned face is an indication of physical and mental well-being and health. However, few of us have perfect skin without trying. Most of us experience some form of blemishes, scaring, or discolorations that can make the skin look blotchy and unappealing—even when we are following a healthful regimen of diet and exercise. If you have areas of patchy skin, scarring, or irregular skin tone and texture, laser skin resurfacing techniques may be just what you need to restore clean and blemish-free good looks.
If you’re concerned about the appearance of your skin, a consultation at Plastic Surgery of Tuscaloosa can help you decide if laser skin resurfacing is right for you. Our aesthetic surgical center, along with the opulent Spa Belle La Vie, is located in the North River area of Tuscaloosa, where we provide a refined, sophisticated, and discrete environment. Dr. Ross Bunch, M.D., ASPS, ASAPS will listen carefully to your aesthetic needs and develop a treatment plan to achieve your desired goals while maintaining a focus on comfort and safety.
What Skin Conditions Can Laser Resurfacing Correct?
Laser skin resurfacing may be a good option for you if you’re concerned about:
- Fine lines or wrinkles of the face or neck
- Scars from acne or injury
- Abdominal stretch marks
- Discolorations, such as age spots or melasma
Laser skin resurfacing is appropriate for correcting many types of skin imperfections. It may be exactly the solution you’ve been looking for.
How Is Laser Skin Resurfacing Performed?
At Plastic Surgery of Tuscaloosa, we use the Fraxel® fractional laser skin resurfacing system. Fraxel® was the first laser skin resurfacing treatment on the market, and it is a well-tested and reliable system for reducing the appearance of skin abnormalities, discolorations, scaring, and wrinkles.
Fraxel® Skin Treatment System
There are three basic stages to the Fraxel® skin treatment system, with two non-ablative levels of treatment, and one ablative level for treating more intensive conditions.
This non-ablative laser skin resurfacing treatment is the mildest of the three, and is used to address fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, as well as mild discolorations of the skin. This treatment is generally recommended for younger patients seeking preventative measures to forestall the first signs of aging, while also addressing some light wrinkles. This treatment will provide a smooth, even complexion, reducing the appearance of fine lines or mild discolorations with no downtime.
Fraxel® re:fine Recovery
The day after treatment, expect the skin to be a little pinkish and sensitive. This will go away on its own within several days, leaving a fresh, healthy appearance.
This mid-level non-ablative laser resurfacing treatment is appropriate for people in early middle age who would like to see some correction of wrinkles around the eyes and mid-face region, as well as acne scars and hyperpigmentation due to age and other skin irregularities. This level of treatment will also smooth and resurface the skin, stimulating collagen production for improved dermal health.
Fraxel® re:store Recovery
While this treatment goes deeper and is appropriate for repairing a wider range of skin imperfections than is the re:fine level of treatment, it also involves an additional recovery phase. During the first several days following treatment, your skin should feel like it has a sunburn, and will be slightly red and sensitive. This should subside several days after your treatment, leaving healthy, glowing skin in its wake.
The third and most intensive level of treatment, Fraxel® re:pair is an ablative treatment that will remove the top level of skin from the surface, thus discarding any unwanted skin imperfections. The laser smoothens the underlying skin, stimulating collagen production to aid the body’s own natural healing processes. This level of treatment is appropriate for people of all ages who wish to see significant improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles and creases, as well as skin imperfections and discolorations.
Fraxel® re:pair Recovery
Following this intensive treatment, you should expect some flaking of the skin of the face, as well as some slight drainage as the outer skin sloughs off and the new, clean skin takes its place. You will be given thorough instructions regarding after-care following this procedure. After the healing phase is complete, you will enjoy a fresher, cleaner look with greatly reduced wrinkles and a clear, smooth complexion.
