Get A Tight, Toned Abdomen And Back With A Lower Body Lift

When you put in the time, work, and effort to lose a significant amount of weight, the last thing you expect to be faced with is excess skin. But all too often, instead of enjoying the benefits of your achievement, you now have to struggle with loose, stretched, unattractive skin that can sometimes lead to skin rashes and other medical concerns. A lower body lift, otherwise known as a “belt lipectomy”, removes the extra skin and fat that has accumulated around your abdomen and back in a belt-like distribution. By tightening the area all around the middle, the upper thighs appear to be lifted as well. The resulting contour is usually quite dramatic! You can finally have a firm, sculpted figure that boosts your self-confidence and allows you to finally enjoy the fruit of your hard work.

Candidacy For A Lower Body Lift

A lower body lift or belt lipectomy can be very beneficial, but is an extensive procedure and must be considered carefully. Candidates for a belt lipectomy are usually concerned about more than just aesthetics; most individuals seeking this form of surgery are also experiencing medical problems relating to the accumulation of excess skin, including issues with mobility and skin breakdown. You may be a candidate for a lower body lift if you:

  • Have had significant weight loss
  • Have overhanging or excess skin your lower body
  • Have some remaining excess fat in the hip, thigh, abdomen, waist, and buttock areas
  • Have experienced irritation, rashes, or other medical problems due to excess skin

At Plastic Surgery of Tuscaloosa in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ross Bunch will work with you to help you determine whether you are a candidate for this transformative surgery. Discussing the frustrations that stem from working so hard to lose weight yet not seeing the results you want can be difficult; Dr. Bunch and his caring, welcoming staff will take the time to help you feel comfortable articulating your goals and your concerns, and will ensure that you fully understand the benefits and risks that this type of procedure entails, ensuring that you are comfortable each and every step of the way.

What You Can Expect From Your Lower Body Lift Procedure

The specifics and extent of this type of procedure will vary for each patient based on their body type and individual goals. However, in general, the surgery involves making a circumferential incision around the torso. The excess skin and fat is removed from the lower abdomen, hips, and back. Then the bottom zone of the body is gently pulled up as the top half is gently pulled down and joined in the middle. While this sounds intensive, the procedure allows us to treat the buttocks, abdomen, waist, hips, and thighs at one time, eliminating the need for multiple surgeries. The incisions are placed below the panty line where they will be least visible; the exact incision location can be customized to fit more inconspicuously based on the type of garments you tend to wear.

The procedure is done under general anesthesia and usually requires an overnight stay. You will want to allow plenty of time to rest and recover (about 2 weeks). Drains may be utilized to help get rid of the excess fluids and are usually in place for about a week. Though your activities will be restricted for a few weeks, your results will be evident immediately. Dr. Bunch and his nursing staff will follow you closely in the immediate postoperative period and you can always contact our office with questions or concerns.

Although a belt lipectomy procedure can seem like quite an undertaking, the results are definitely worth it. Ridding your body of the excess skin and fat that has been weighing you down can be life changing, improving your quality of life functionally, cosmetically, and most importantly, emotionally!
