Forehead Lift

Smooth Away Worry Lines with a Forehead Lift

We often wear signs of stress in the face, with thick lines and wrinkles forming inexorably across the top of the brow, between the eyebrows, and across the bridge of the nose. A wrinkled brow can even cause the position of the eyebrows to descend, giving the face a permanent aspect of fatigue and concern. Many people report that their permanently-tired expression doesn’t accurately reflect the youthful vigor that they feel inside. If you’re ready to brighten up a sagging or worried-looking brow, a forehead lift might be just the thing you’re looking for.

If you’re dismayed by the appearance of a perpetually worried brow, a consultation at Plastic Surgery of Tuscaloosa can help you decide if a forehead lift procedure is right for you. Our aesthetic surgical center is located in the North River area of Tuscaloosa, where we provide a refined, sophisticated, and discrete environment. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ross Bunch, MD, will listen carefully to your aesthetic needs and develop a treatment plan to achieve your desired goals while maintaining a focus on comfort and safety.

A forehead lift procedure is ideal for individuals who are concerned about:

  • Deep wrinkles of the forehead (worry lines)
  • Creases between the eyebrows (“11 lines”)
  • A sunken brow that droops into the eye area
  • Deep creases at the bridge of the nose

If you’re concerned about deep brow furrows, lines between your eyebrows, or sagging eyebrows that contribute to a look of permanent exhaustion or melancholy, a forehead lift may be an excellent solution.

What to Expect From a Forehead Lift

Depending on your condition and aesthetic goals, Dr. Bunch will develop a treatment plan to achieve your desired outcomes with a minimum of discomfort or downtime. However, a forehead lift is a significant surgery and will typically be performed under either IV or general anesthesia. Patients must plan to have a friend or relative drive them to and from the clinical setting; patients should also be prepared to spend several weeks relaxing and generally taking it easy during the healing process.

Depending on your treatment plan, an incision will be made either along the forehead just behind the hairline, or across the crown of the head. In either case, the incision will be buried within the hairline, and will be obscured from view after the healing process is complete. In some cases, we may be able to utilize innovative endoscopic techniques that utilize a series of small incisions placed just behind the hairline. While not appropriate for every patient, this procedure has the advantage of involving smaller incisions, which means reduced numbness and scarring, and less post-surgical down time.

The procedure involves tightening and repositioning the forehead tissues to smooth out any wrinkles or sagging areas. After the forehead has been precisely contoured to achieve the desired aesthetic effect, the incisions will be carefully closed, and a drainage tube may be installed to help reduce fluid buildup. You should expect to experience some minor discomfort and swelling during the first several days following your procedure, and medications will be prescribed to ensure that your recovery is as comfortable as possible. Cold compresses may also be applied to help reduce swelling. Any drains will be removed within the first day or two following surgery.

It’s important to keep your head elevated following brow lift surgery, even when sleeping. Patients should be prepared to sleep in a comfortable lounge chair or similar upright arrangement for the first week or two following surgery. Most patients find that they are able to return to work about two weeks after surgery, but even during your recovery period, the results will be immediately evident—a smooth, worry-free appearance and bright, youthful vigor in the brow.
